Japanese news and upcoming events
During term 2, infants classes began to learn some Japanese language and culture with Mrs Aoki. Children have learned some greetings and simple songs, as well as looking at some of the similarities and differences between Japan and Australia. The children have responded with great enthusiasm and especially enjoyed learning about Children’s Day, a national holiday and festival to celebrate the health and happiness of children.
If your children are interested in watching some classical Japanese animated films, SBS World Movies (digital channel 32) will be celebrating Studion Ghibli (think the Japanese equivalent to Disney) on July 6 and 7. These films will be shown in English language versions.
Also, if you are looking for something different to do during the upcoming school holidays, the Japan Foundation in Sydney is running a traditional Japanese kite making workshop. The two hour workshop is run by a visiting Kite master from Japan and will be held on Thursday 11 July. For more information, visit the Japan Foundation’s website:
