Feast of the Assumption
On Monday the 17th of August we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption, which marks the event where Mary was taken body and soul into heaven, with a liturgy at the morning assembly, led by Year 6. The Feast of the Assumption falls on the 15th of August, which was a Saturday this year. Below is an exert of the liturgy, which was read by Elleanor Pazstor, our Liturgy Leader:
The Virgin Mary, having completed her life of faithful obedience to the will of God was taken body and soul into Heaven. We celebrate this major feast day each year on the 15th August.
It is believed that Mary died some years after Jesus ascended into Heaven. She died in the presence of all the Apostles except Saint Thomas. When St Thomas requested that the tomb be opened, he found it to be empty. The Apostles knew and we believe that Mary, the mother of God was taken body and soul into heaven…
Let us pray ...
Almighty Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, you have revealed the beauty of your power
by exalting the lowly virgin of Nazareth
and making her the mother of our Saviour.
May the prayers of this woman clothed with the sun
bring Jesus to the waiting world
and fill the void of incompletion with the presence of her child, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever…
Amen.
Kind Regards,
