1 July - Coming of the Light - Torres Strait Islands
The Coming of the Lighty is a holiday celebrated by Torres Strait Islanders on 1 July each year. It recognises the adoption of Christianity through the island communities during the late nineteenth century.
7 July - 14 July - NAIDOC WEEK
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. Wherever you live, taking part of NAIDOC Week is a great way to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
12 July - ANNIVERSARY OF THE ABORIGINAL FLAG BEING FIRST FLOWN (1971)
The Aboriginal flag, designed by Harold Thomas, was first flown in Adelaide on the National Aboriginals Day in 1971.
