STEWARDS OF CREATION!
A sea of leafy greens was seen at St Patrick’s on Friday of Week 3 as Year 4 harvested over 20 heads of lettuce, a few raddichio and a heap of coriander and parsley. Throw in 4 or so broccoli and I would call that a healthy harvest! The students also learned about the importance of letting some plants go to seed to attract beneficial insects, in particular bees. In the photos you can see that we let a few broccolini plants go to flower and the European honeybees (apis mellifera) are having a field day!
The girls and boys were thrilled to take some of their hard-grown produce home!

Year 6 Mass with Bishop Brian

On Wednesday the 3rd of August, Year 6, Miss Greenwood and myself attended the Year 6 Mass with Bishop Brian at St Joseph’s Catholic Parish Bulli. We were joined by many students from across the diocese, including children from Holy Cross Helensburgh, St Collumbkille’s Corrimal, St Michael’s Thirroul and St Francis of Assisi Warrawong. It was a particularly special mass and the children participated beautifully and represented our school with pride. Particular recognition needs to go to Aaron Pasztor, who read the prayers of intercession during the mass. After the mass
the girls and boy were treated to a live concert lead by Catholic Youth Ministry Wollongong. After a nervous start the children cut some serious rug on the dance floor and had loads of fun.

Well done Year 6!

All the best,
Mr Sam Mattas
Religious Education Coordinator
