Dear Parents
RU OK Day?
R U OK Day? (Thursday 10 September, 2020) is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” and support those struggling with life's ups and downs.
On Monday our Year 3 to 6 students participated in a virtual classroom experience focused on the importance of keeping safe in a digital environment. Our students gained once again great learning from this virtual classroom experience and the importance of managing their own online safety.
I had a wonderful greeting this morning from a student in one of the early grades who asked me if I was OK and if I needed anything to come and visit her class. How blessed are we to have such kind and considerate children – a credit to you as parents.
COVID-19
Reminder to all families the following directives:
- Students showing signs of being unwell must be sent home ASAP.
- Schools must maintain an isolation room for persons showing symptoms of COVID-19 while they await collection.
- When the reason for their absence was illness with flu-like symptoms (as outlined by NSW Health) students are required to be free of symptoms AND present a negative COVID-19 test, which must be
- sighted by the school, before returning to school.
- Students are encouraged to get tested as soon as possible if they display flu-like symptoms
Any adult who enters the school buildings for more than a duration of 2 minutes should sign in. This includes:
- A parent who needs to enter the office and wait to collect a student
- In order to sign in on the ipad please download the CEDow quick sign in app on your phone.
As always, should you need anything clarified, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support in adhering to our COVID-19 policies and procedures. Just a reminder to please keep your children home if they are unwell.
Uniform
Term 4 is the usual time when we start to wear summer uniform. Until the end of the term ( ie starting on Monday September 14th ) boys and girls can wear either uniform till the end of the term depending on the weather. This means that when wearing either summer or winter the boys and girls must wear that full uniform not mix and match.
At the start of Term 4, however, all students are to wear their summer uniform.
Best Wishes
Mrs Anne Duggan - Principal
PB4L - WEEK 8
Positive Behaviours for Learning (PB4L)
Our PB4L focus for next week (Week 9) is being Respectful, Responsible and Safe online
The poster below comes from the Office of the eSafety Commissioner and will be the basis of the explicit teaching lessons throughout the week.
The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety) is committed to empowering all Australians to have safer, more positive experiences online. eSafety was established in 2015 with a mandate to coordinate and lead the online safety efforts across government, industry and the not-for-profit community.
More information about the Office of the eSafety Commissioner can be found at esafety.gov.au
I urge you to explore this website as it has very useful reference and resource material for all members of the community.
Our PB4L focus for Week 10 is Respectful, Responsible and Safe online
In so doing we will review our Major and Minor Behaviour definitions, a copy of which is above.
We would very much appreciate your discussing these weekly focuses with your children and reviewing the expected and non-acceptable behaviours in our endeavour to see that St Patrick’s is a more respectful, responsible and safe learning community for all.
PB4L Data
It is with pride that I inform you that over the last two weeks (Weeks 7 and 8) 49 students were given Citizenship, Merit, Library or Uniform Awards or Playground Affirmation Awards whilst there were only 2 incidences of Inappropriate behavior recorded.
Congratulations and thank you boys and girls. Please continue to act respectfully, responsibly and safely.
The St Patrick’s Parish and School Great Fete which had been rescheduled for Saturday October 17 has been regrettably cancelled. Plans are underway to hold an alternate celebration. More information will be sent to you in the near future. Thank you to the members of the P&F who are working towards this alternate celebration.

August Mission Star!
A big congratulations to the August Mission Star Award recipient, our wonderful pastoral support worker Mrs Neilsen! Mrs Neilsen is a more than deserving recipient of the award, receiving 6 nominations from the St Patrick’s community. Thanks for all that you do Mrs Neilsen to support the well-being of our students.
The Mission Star Award is especially unique and special as nominations come from all members of the school community, not just teachers. Remember, if you would like to nominate a student, staff member, parent or carer you can do so by accessing the home learning website here:
First Reconciliation – Congratulations Year 3 Students!
A huge congratulations to the Year 3 girls and boys who, on Thursday the 3rd of September, received the sacrament of Reconciliation from Fr Mark. It was a great evening and the students were all slightly nervous but indeed very excited. It was also great to see many of the parents and older siblings leading by example and joining Fr Mark for reconciliation. A big thankyou to the parents for supporting your children, Fr Mark and Sr Miriam for their preparation and organisation, and also thanks to Mrs Duggan and Miss Cappetta for running the reconciliation workshops.
Congratulations girls and boys, and good luck in preparing for First Holy Communion which is coming up in November!
Kind Regards,
Mr Sam Mattas
Religious Education Coordinator
Book Week 2020 will be celebrated October 17 - 23 this year. The theme this year is ' Curious Creatures Wild Minds'. The Book Parade has always been the highlight of the week. This year it will be a little different due to the COVID 19 restrictions. We are unable to gather as a whole school group to dress in costumes and parade so we will be having classes parade on different days. The flyer below has all the information for the parade. Please encourage your children to join in and celebrate books and reading.

Congratulations to our Week 7 award recipients.

Make sure you’re staying connected with friends and family - if you’re feeling isolated or sad take what can sometimes be a difficult step to reach out and maintain these important connections of friendship and family.
Year 4 spent the first day of Spring in our school garden. It was a beautiful day and the children worked very entusiastically whilst have a great time.
