Dear Parents
Thank you for another wonderful term together - how it has flown!
Last week we completed our School Cyclic Inquiry. This was quite an involved process that will help shape the future priorities for our school. We will share more information about this with you next term, but I wanted to thank all the parents who completed the Tell Them from Me survey, and especially to those parents who were able to form the parent panel on the day.
Term 3
Please see attached the term overview for Term 3. We hope you find these dates useful when managing your calendars and work commitments.
Please be mindful, the first day of Term 3 for students is Tuesday 18 July. Monday 17 July is a pupil free day.
Grandparents Day
Next term we will host our Grandparents Day! As part of our celebrations we are inviting you to send in a photo of your child(ren) with their grandparents. These must be received by Friday 21 July. Unfortunately, photos received after this date can not be included. Please email photos to info@sppkdow.catholic.edu.au
We are also asking students in Years 3 and 4 to bring in a plate of food that will be shared with all grandparents on the day.
We hope to be able to have the Canteen open on the day, so that if grandparents want to spoil their grandchildren with treats on the day, they will be able to do so.

Confirmation Congratulations
Congratulations to Levi Marras Scerri in Year 6 who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last Wednesday. May he continue to live in the footsteps of Jesus as a Confirmed Catholic, being filled with the Holy Spirit.
Congratulations to Miss Dowsett for being awarded the Dean's Merit List for achieving a ranking in the top 5% of students.
We welcomed the very exciting news that Caitlin (Yr 4) and Mia (Yr 2) welcomed their baby brother to the world on 15 June. Congratulations to the Lock family on the safe arrival of Jackson James!
POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING
It is with pride that I inform you that over the last two weeks 54 students were given Citizenship, Merit, Library or Uniform Awards or Playground Affirmation Awards whilst there were 6 incidents of Inappropriate behaviour recorded.
Year 4 were greeted with a pristine winter’s day on Monday June 19 as they spent the day in The Living Classroom with myself and Aaron (our permaculture guru). We had an absolutely cracking day learning in great detail about how our proximity to the ocean and the escarpment impacts on the climate in our garden. The children were also lucky enough to receive a masterclass from Aaron on ‘biodynamics’, and the children prepared biodynamic fertilisers applied as potentised liquid sprays to bring healing, vitality, and sensitivity to the garden. They also painted fruit trees with a biodynamic tree paste, built a massive ‘hot compost’, harvested hundreds of mandarins, and planted a few dragon-fruit trees.
It was a day to remember for all of us! Huge thanks to Aaron for joining us for the day.
Pizzas may be back on the menu next term!
All the best,
Mr Sam Mattas

Creative Writing CompetitionEarlier this term Sofia Mineeff and Nikhil Carolan, from Year 6, entered the Dymocks Beyond Words Creative Writing Competition. They have to wait until August to hear whether their stories have been longlisted. The winners of the competition will then be announced in September. We wish them the best of luck. Please enjoy the writing of these future authors.Miss Doro
