We thank you Lord, for this term.
For the challenges, the successes,
and the mistakes from which we have learnt.
Be with us as we spend our time with family and friends.
Give us strength and courage to do what is right; to be witnesses of our faith.
Help us to be a practical Christian these holidays, to appreciate what others do for us,
to give time and effort to help others,
to be peacemakers in our family.
Keep us safe in our activities; give us good rest and good fun.
Bring us back refreshed and ready for a new term.
We thank you for our classmates, teachers, parents and a community that cares for us.
May we always be conscious of you in our lives.
Amen
Dear Parents
Term 4 COMPASS
We will be moving to Compass and no longer using skoolbag for any messages etc. Please read below:
The Compass News Feed appears on the Home page for all users (staff, students and parents), and is a great way for the school to communicate with you as parents.
News Feed items like Skoolbag items can be customised for different parent groups. The most recent News Items sit at the top of the News Feed and they are moved down the feed as other posts are created. A News Item remains on the News Feed until the set expiry date.
News Feed items will be sent via a push notifications to iPhones, iPads and Android devices, with the Compass App installed. Only individuals who have installed the iOS or Android 'Compass School Manager' native application and who have allowed notifications will receive these Push Notifications. Android users can download the 'Compass School Manager' app on Google Play and iPhone and iPad users can download the app from the App Store.
When you receive an email or push notification advising you of a News Item, you can click the 'View News Item' button within your notification to view the item without requiring to login to the Compass portal.
To access any attachments or action anything further as a result of the information issued in the News Item (ie consent for an event etc), you will be required to login.

St Patrick’s Primary School Bullying Parent/Carer Survey
Thank you to the 49 families who returned the Bullying Parent/Carer Survey conducted earlier this term. Whilst the responses were very affirming of the safe and supportive culture of our school there were some responses suggesting that a child/children may be experiencing bullying.
If this still applies to your child/ren, please make an appointment with your child’s teacher to discuss this at your earliest convenience as your child’s/ren’s welfare is important to us.

World Mission Month Launch
On Wednesday 18 September myself and Isis, Christian P and Eva D from Year 6 travelled to St John the Evangelist Catholic High School in Nowra to attend the Wollongong Diocese launch of World Mission Month. The event was marked with a brilliant liturgy and the students and I learned about the efforts of people in Northern Africa who are running orphanages and looking after children who have lost their families. It was an excellent day and we all felt inspired to help raise money for those less fortunate than us. We will be raising money with a fundraising event in Term 4.

There are a number of items in the lost property baskets, located near the student entrance to the office. Please check the basket regularly for your children's lost uniforms. Please make sure all students personal belongings are clearly labelled.
Thank you to all of the boys and girls in infants who have been working hard in Japanese class this term. It is wonderful to see the children’s enquiring minds asking a lot of questions and using language that they have learned. These year two students were recently spotted extending their knowledge of kanji to try and write numbers up to 20, during WET WEATHER lunch! Well done, girls.
Don’t forget to take a look at the student work and Japanese news that are on display in our school break out space next time you visit.
Upcoming events
Looking for something different to do during the holidays, and don’t mind venturing to Sydney? The Japan Foundation will be hosting a traditional handmade workshop on Thursday 10 October. School-aged children can paint their own Tumi-isi (wooden balancing blocks) made from 100-year old Japanese cedar wood, using traditional Japanese and Australian indigenous colour paints. The Japan Foundation is not too far from Central Station so it is very easy to access.
Bookings are essential. For more information please visit the Japan Foundation’s event page:
Fun Facts
- Did you know the Rugby World Cup is being hosted in Japan from this month, through to 2 November?
- The 2020 Tokyo Olympic medals are being made from recycled electronic devices such as mobile phones, donated by the Japanese public.
- The 2020 Paralympics medals will be the first ever Olympic medals to have Braille on them.

Kinder and Japanese Teacher
On Thursday, Year 3 and Year 4 went on an excursion to Killalea State Park. The children had a fantastic day and experienced many wonderful things from traditional Aboriginal Culture. The children witnessed a traditional smoking ceremony, got their faces painted with Aboriginal ochre, tried some bush tucker and threw boomerangs. The children learnt a lot and were very grateful for their time spent at Killalea.

Below are some recounts from year 3 & 4 of the excursion:
