Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Fathers, Grandfathers and Father figures in our lives the most wonderful father’s day this Sunday. Parenting is no easy feat and being a father is challenging but rewarding job. We acknowledge all that these people do for us, caring, nurturing and protecting. We ask God to bless them and guide them in all that they do.
A big thank you to members of the P&F committee as well as some additional parent volunteers who organised and conducted our father’s day stall today. The range of gifts was impressive and the students had the opportunity to choose something that their dad would love.
A Prayer For Fathers
Heavenly Father,
you entrusted your Son Jesus,
the child of Mary,
to the care of Joseph, an earthly father.
Bless all fathers
as they care for their families.
Give them strength and wisdom,
tenderness and patience;
support them in the work they have to do,
protecting those who look to them,
as we look to you for love and salvation,
through Jesus Christ
our rock and defender.
Amen.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS FOR LEARNING
Our PB4L/SEL focus for Week 7 will be:
Be an Upstander (when you feel it is safe to do so)
In the explicit teaching lessons, the expected behaviours taught will be:
Take action by:
1. Refusing to join in the disrespectful behaviour.
2.Speaking out. Say,
“Stop treating him/her like that.” or
“Stop calling him/her that name.”
or
“I’m going to tell a teacher right now.”
3.Inviting the person being hurt to join your group.
4.Being a friend to the person who is being hurt by standing next to them;
saying, “don’t listen to them. It’s not true.”
5. Cheering them up with a compliment
Our PB4L focus for next week (Week 8) is Waste Management
In the explicit teaching lessons, the expected behaviours taught will be:
1. Putting my food waste in the compost bin
2. Putting paper, cardboard, and hard plastics in the recycling bin
3. Putting foil, plastic bags, and Gladwrap in the rubbish bin
4. Taking uneaten food home in my lunchbox
Examples of behaviours that negatively impact on Respectful, Responsible and Safe Waste Management to be taught include:
1.Throwing food scraps in the rubbish or the recycling bin.
2. Leaving my rubbish in the classroom, the breakout space or on the playground.
3. Throwing uneaten food away.
PB4L Data
It is with pride that I inform you that in the last two weeks 49 students were given
Citizenship, Merit or Library Awards whilst there were 10 incidents of Inappropriate
behaviour recorded. Please continue to act respectfully, responsibly, and safely girls and boys. Thank you
We would very much appreciate you discussing these weekly focuses with your children and reviewing the expected and non-acceptable behaviours in our endeavour to see that St Patrick’s is a more respectful, responsible, and safe learning community for all.

Spiritual Reflection – ‘Called to be Prophets and Disciples’
On Thursday August 29, the Church celebrates the passion of St John the Baptist. We know from Scripture that he was the cousin of Jesus, the son of Elizabeth, and also the nephew of Mary. King Herod knew that John was a holy man, and he liked to hear John’s words. He knew that he had to get control of him because of the crowds he was starting to build. He was afraid to kill him, so instead he had him imprisoned. Herod also feared that John’s influence and power over the people might cause a rebellion.
As we reflect on John, we can ponder what the parallels are in our own lives.
He prepared the way for Jesus.
How do I prepare myself, my heart, to welcome Jesus’ way of life as my way of life?
He focused on his relationship with God. The God we experience is the God we live.
How do I remain in relationship with God? What practices sustain this relationship?
He was a prophet, speaking God’s truth in the world with great courage in calling others to a true change of heart.
When and where am I invited to speak God’s truth courageously, even when it is not popular or graciously received?
Each of us has a calling to which we must listen. No one will ever repeat the mission of John, and yet all of us are called to that very mission.
It is the role of the Christian to witness to Jesus. Whatever our position in this world, we are called to be disciples of Christ.
By our words and deeds, others should realise that we live in the joy of knowing that Jesus is God who invites us to fully live our lives.
Kind regards
